SDG 13: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts (2023)
We produce research data and solutions that help society and the natural resources sector combat climate change and adapt to it.
Each year, we report emissions and removals from agriculture and the land use sector and are continuously developing methods to specify the calculation of greenhouse gas balances. We use this data in scenario analyses that form the basis of climate and energy policies and policy briefs for agriculture and forestry.
In 2023, we prepared a policy brief to offer encouragement to reduce emissions and strengthen carbon sinks in forests through comprehensive guidance for forest management and the use of wood. Prepared on the basis of recent research, the policy brief highlights carbon premiums, incentives for wood construction and a land use change fee as promising control measures. Rapid emissions reductions could be achieved by setting diameter limits for regeneration felling.
Examples of our activities to help mitigate climate change and its impact include the synthesis report on the impact of climate change and extreme weather on nature and the natural resources sector, as well as the policy brief on peatland processing to achieve emissions reductions.
